Lee Flourentzou has pursued his passion to produce rich and intensely flavoured red wines. He purchased a 70 acre plot of dirt, 7 km outside of the township of McLaren Vale back in 1998. He now has 64 acres planted, the majority of which is dedicated Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon vines.

Anvers is the French name for the Belgian city of Antwerpen as it is called in Flemish, or Antwerp as it is known in English. Anvers is the home town of Myriam Keoghan and also where Wayne and Myriam first met in 1983. On the label is the Roman warrior Brabo. According to legend, Antwerp was terrorised by a terrible giant called Antigoon, who made the passing ships pay a toll – until one day, a Roman warrior named Brabo fought and killed him, cutting his hand off and throwing it into the Scheldt River.

Sue Trott is one of Australia’s few long established women vignerons. After many years of growing grapes for some of Australia’s best known wineries, she decided it was time to select some of her best parcels of fruit in Blewitt Springs for her own label. On Sue Trott’s Blewitt Springs vineyard, five wild geese have lived for many years, foraging for feed between the rows of vines. Each night they sleep on the waters of the dam, seeking refuge from marauding foxes.

On 25 January 1839, Johann Christian Hahn and his wife Maria Elizabeth left their home in Brausendorf Silesia (now Poland), to travel to South Australia on the sailing ship Catharina. They were some of the very earliest white settlers to arrive in this state. Johann worked as a farmer-gardener and, in 1846, purchased 32 hectares (80 acres) of land in the Barossa Valley. Maintaining the family’s rural tradition, Johann Christian II bought land of his own-situated on the Light Pass Road, Barossa Valley-in February 1885. Mixed farming and viticulture were common pursuits in the area in those days, and now, after being in the Hahn Family for five generations, the property is totally planted to vines. The vineyard’s flagship wine is the Catharina, inspired by the name of the ship the Hahn family came aboard.

Picardy is owned and operated by Bill, Sandra, Dan and Jodie Pannell. Bill and Sandra were pioneers of the Margaret River region, establishing Moss Wood vineyard and winery in 1969. Moss Wood went on to be a major driving force in establishing Margaret River as one of Australia’s important growing regions. Picardy was named after a region east of Paris. A wine merchant and family friend noted that many of the great wines and wine regions have names beginning with the letter “P”. Pomerol, Petrus, Pauillac and Pommard are examples. In 1998 an area of the Maipo Valley in Melipilla was chosen due to its privileged microclimate, its soils and human factors that make it a unique place. Chocalan, a name given by the indigenous populations which means “yellow blossoms”, is located on the side of the Maipo Valley hills that are closer to the Coast.
